Rain & Sun & Word

Isaiah 55:10-11

10 Just as the rain and the snow come down from the sky
and don’t return there without watering the earth,
making it conceive and yield plants
and providing seed to the sower and food to the eater,
11     so is my word that comes from my mouth;
it does not return to me empty.
Instead, it does what I want,
        and accomplishes what I intend.

Lord,
in my community we've experienced your rain and snow.
Some would say,
"what we need now is plenty of sunshine."
But there is still draught.
In some places the rains have yet to fall.

But the draught I experience
is not a lack of precipitation,
but a lack of hearing your voice.

Send your Word again.
May your Son shine
speaking again your words
of life, of love, of grace, of challenge.
Give us ears to hear
that we soak up your word
and bring forth fruit
of faithfulness, of compassion, of discipleship.

Lord,
Your Word will not return to you empty,
but it accomplishes your purpose.
May I be attentive to your Word
and about your purpose today.
Amen.
