The LORD said to Samuel,
“How long will you grieve over Saul?
I have rejected him from being king over Israel.
Fill your horn with oil and set out;
I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite,
for I have provided for myself a king among his sons.”
Lord,
often I get stuck
holding on so tightly to what was,
with hands so full of the past
that I cannot grasp
Your grace in the present
nor can I reach for Your future.
Help me grieve the past
using my tears
to cleanse my sight
to see Your vision of the future.
Today, Lord,
send me by Your Spirit
to anoint those I meet
with gracious words
and acts of blessing,
for You are bringing
Your future hope to life through us.
Amen.
