Ventures of which we cannot see the ending

The Covid-19 crisis has called me back to an old prayer. When I first ran across it in 2003, I found it deeply meaningful and moving.

Lord God,
you have called your servants
to ventures of which we cannot see the ending,
by paths as yet untrodden,
through perils unknown.
Give us faith to go out with courage,
not knowing where we go,
but only that your hand is leading us
and your love supporting us;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

This prayer was written by Eric Milner-White (1884-1963), an Anglican clergyman in his book, “Daily Prayer” (1941, 1959). It is now widely used by various churches and groups.
