Lord,
We just did a big thing:
we took our son to college.
It is a milestone that marks a new phase in life.
Our son is beginning his adult life.
That is the new beginning I expected.
What I did not expect was my own new beginning:
the beginning of being a parent of an adult.
I am learning from those who have gone before me on the journey of parenting.
My role now is more coaching,
the work of a good consultant:
-Asking open ended questions to help him discern what the next step might be.
-Listening to his thoughts and ideas.
-What Edgar Schein calls "humble inquiry".
Lord,
We did a big thing!
We took our son to college,
helped launch him into adulthood.
And we took a big step towards being parents of an adult.
Both hard work.
Lord,
Keep walking with us.
Keep guiding us by your Spirit.
Keep growing our son until the Man of God you are making him to be.
Keep growing my wife and I into the people you are making us to be.
Lord,
Continue to bless and keep us always.
